Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, … -Paul Claudel
Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ,
I haven’t come for praying.
I have nothing to offer and don’t know
what I should ask for.
All I have come for is to see you, Mother.
To see you, to shed tears of happiness
in the knowledge
that I am your child,
that you are present.
Merely for a short while I will stay with you,
be here where you are, Mother Mary.
You are so lovely and fair and immaculate,
our Lady full of grace, who appeared from God
his magnificence,
immensely pure,
as you are the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We thank you
because you are there, for ever present,
just because you are Mary,
the Mother of Jesus Christ.
(Paul Claudel)
